Job description

Liz Lidgett Gallery and Design is seeking a team member who is organized and scrappy. The part-time Sales Assistant will support the team through general administrative duties, staffing the gallery, initiating sales opportunities, managing new client outreach and other duties as assigned. This position starts as 7 hours weekly, every Friday 10am-5pm, with the goal to increase hours after the first couple months. This position is paid hourly.

The gallery is located in the East Village of downtown Des Moines, Iowa, and represents artists from all over the world. We value creativity, flexibility, individualism and enthusiasm for art. We are a fast-moving business who is looking for an energetic, creative individual who can easily adapt into the fast-paced, growing culture.

Responsibilities

  • Perform research on current and upcoming art advisory projects to support the art advisors.
  • Initiate sales opportunities by reaching out to new clients—both individual and corporate.
  • Research and manage new advertisement opportunities.
  • Contribute topic ideas and content to the company blog and social media.
  • Complete general administrative duties.
  • Track relevant expenses and expense receipts for accurate accounting reconciliations.
  • File and track reimbursements, credits, and refunds through to completion.
  • Prepare documents in Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
  • Project a professional and supportive image to all parties in the screening of telephone calls, emails and greeting guests while staffing the gallery. Prioritize people and situations in need of attention.
  • Handle confidential and sensitive information with the appropriate discretion.
  • Understand key functions and project management. Provide monitoring and follow-through support on action items in progress.
  • Manage multiple projects at once.
  • Staff the gallery every Friday, and potentially a few evenings.
  • Assist with art advisory projects, such as art installations, maintenance, and coordination of projects.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required skills and experience

  • Must have a love of art. The applicant does not need to have an art degree or have worked at a gallery previously, but must have some experience with the art world and enjoy creative opportunities.
  • All applicants must be available to work 7-10 hours per week, on average, in Des Moines, Iowa. The position will begin on or around September 27.
  • Self-motivated, highly organized and results-oriented individual who works with little or no supervision, and demonstrates initiative, flexibility, teamwork, maturity under pressure, and anticipates and resolves problems before they escalate.
  • Strong time-management and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated drive for superior service.
  • Software skills in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.
  • Software skills in the Adobe Creative Suite, such as InDesign and Photoshop, are a plus, but not required.
  • Exceptional analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Maintains highest level of personal integrity.
  • Friendly and conversational.
  • Fast Learner.
  • Comfortable in a rapidly changing and occasionally ambiguous environment.
  • Detail oriented and ability to complete work assignments with a high degree of quality.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
