Art doesn’t always need to tell you what you’re looking at. Sometimes, it’s about how it makes you feel. That’s the beauty behind Be Full of Wonder, our latest show here at the gallery. This exhibition celebrates abstract art in all its forms, bringing together works filled with movement, color, texture, and emotion. Every piece invites you to slow down, look a little closer, and discover something entirely your own. Here’s a little peek at the show! Come see it for yourself on this chilly Saturday 10-4, or shop the collection online.

It’s opening day for Be Full of Wonder! There’s something pretty magical about a room filled with abstract art. The unexpected color combinations, the layers of texture, the movement across each canvas, and the way every piece can make you feel something completely different. Our newest exhibition brings together over 55 works by ten talented artists, each with their own unique approach to abstraction. Some pieces are bold and full of energy, while others invite a quieter moment of reflection. That’s what we love about this show. There’s no single way to experience it. Join Liz for a walkthrough of Be Full of Wonder, then stop by the gallery to see it all in person! The entire collection is also available to shop online. ✨

Ever looked at a piece of abstract art and thought, “Am I missing something?” 🤷‍♀️ Here’s the secret: you don’t have to figure it out! Consider this your invitation to look a little closer, get curious, and simply enjoy what you see.

We’ve added a new member to the gallery… and she’s pretty in pink. 🦩 This October, we’re joining small businesses across Central Iowa for Let’s Flamingle: Birds of a Feather Are Stronger Together in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. One fact worth knowing: over 85% of women diagnosed with breast cancer have no family history of the disease. It’s an important reminder to know your risk and prioritize screening. Throughout October, you’ll spot pink flamingos popping up at participating businesses across Central Iowa—all coming together to raise awareness, encourage action, and showcase the strength of our local small business community. The initiative also supports Can Do Cancer, a local nonprofit helping Iowans fighting breast cancer through patient partnerships and support during chemotherapy. We’re proud to be part of the flock and stand alongside so many local businesses for a cause that impacts our community.🩷 #flamingledsm

Artist Spotlight: Sarah Grant For Sarah, painting is a space for experimentation. Her large-scale acrylic works explore abstraction and its relationship to narrative, using color, movement, and expressive mark-making to create pieces that feel both spontaneous and deeply considered. Her practice is rooted in curiosity—the freedom to push, expand, and continually rethink what abstraction can communicate. Based in Iowa, Sarah has been creating and exhibiting work for decades, with pieces now found in museum, corporate, private, and public collections around the world. Explore Sarah’s work on our website!

The wait is over—and this one comes with a bow on top💙 A new collection from @monicajenjo is officially LIVE! Our art has been doing a little traveling this year… 🌎 From cities across the U.S. to homes around the world, we’ve packed up and shipped pieces to some pretty incredible places so far in 2026. There’s something special about watching art leave our gallery in Des Moines and knowing its next stop is a new wall, a new room, and a new home. Where should we ship to next?

Daisy Faith, a Wilmington, North Carolina-based artist brings a fresh perspective to the spaces around us. With a background in Interior Design & Art, @daisyfaithart often looks to interiors as her starting point, pulling inspiration from the colors, shapes, patterns, and energy of a room. From there, she reimagines what she sees through an abstract expressionist lens, transforming a space into something entirely her own. Known for bold color, expressive brushwork, and energetic compositions, Daisy’s work is influenced by impressionism and the playful spirit of fauvism. Her process is intuitive and spontaneous, allowing each painting to evolve as she works. Explore Daisy’s work on our website!

Our most clicked on piece of art yesterday… and we know why! Tangled Truther by @the.allisonjames is full of movement, bold color, and subtle details that reveal themselves the longer you look. A contemporary abstract painter based in Central Georgia, Allison pulls from memories, personal experiences, and fleeting moments to create visual narratives through layers of thin paint, recognizable forms, and her signature silhouettes. It’s expressive, unexpected, and impossible to take in all at once—which might explain all those clicks. 👀

A day behind the scenes with @hannah.jacobus Here’s a glimpse into a day spent sourcing, styling, and shooting. From pulling inspiration and selecting artwork to styling shelves and refining the details, every detail is curated to create a space that feels personal and timeless. Design tip: Scale is key. When styling shelves, you’ll always need more colorful books than you think—they add height and personality! 📚

Art drama is the best kind of drama. And we love a statement piece that really makes you feel something. So what is it about a piece that makes it demand your attention? Here are a few works around the gallery that help show you why. First, high contrast. Really dark spots and really light spots. The contrast immediately catches the viewer’s attention because there’s rarely this much contrast in everyday life. Next, a color-drenched moment. One color in different variations—especially when it’s a bold, vibrant shade. This @anna__michele__ string-wrapped panel is the perfect example. And red is the epitome of drama. Visual symmetry, especially at a large scale. At first glance, it may not feel symmetrical. But the longer you look, the more you see how each corner mirrors the opposite. The negative space, the composition, the overall “plan”—it’s intentionally symmetrical and brilliant. Overall dark colors and often monochromatic. Rich, dark, textured strokes automatically feel moody and stir something in your soul. An unexpected scale. There may be a recognizable subject, but when it’s extra large? It makes you do a double take. Like this fabulous face by @suzy.lindow—you see faces every day, but never at this scale. A thoughtful nature element. We all know a flower blooms and wilts, and when paired with dark colors (instead of the bright colors we often associate with flowers), it somehow feels even more thoughtful and emotional. An intentionally “busy” composition. With the right colors and placement, a maximalist piece can be the true drama queen of the room. And on the flip side—an understated minimalist piece. It knows it’s the perfect amount of drama all on its own. It’s chic and not overdone (exactly how a real drama queen feels).

I love everything about this collection. The color combos, the painted confetti, the polka dots—it’s all so happy. And I’m excited to share it. Touching Grass Is Not Enough (the cutest title!) is now live, with ten new pieces by the wonderful @bekahworleyco. Okay, and if you had to choose—which one is your favorite?

These creamy clouds from @tessabrownart JUST arrived at the gallery and the rolling strokes at this scale are so, so good. 🤎 The coloring is rich, dramatic and truly makes you feel something. The grand presence that a large canvas gives really can’t be beat. Oh, and here’s our new team member for scale. Hi and welcome, Kendal!

It’s a thrill every time. Every month, we’re so grateful for the opportunity to support these incredibly talented artists—and cheer them on from our little gallery. But really, it’s you supporting them by loving art and choosing to spend your dollars on it. Thank you from the LLGD team and the 78+ artists who you’ll find here. ❤️

The wonderful @the.allisonjames joined Liz for a chat about her solo show, creating the work and creativity.

Wowza, this collection is so good from @bekahworleyco. She titled it “Touching Grass Is Not Enough”—and it’s so perfect. Blooming florals, natural patterns, vibrant color and, of course, Bekah’s touch of personality on every piece. They all go live this Friday, July 31, at 10am CT! Ten new pieces, starting at $800, in really great sizes. View the full preview in Wednesday’s newsletter to get the first peek!

In the art world, it’s a big deal for an artist to secure a solo show—it’s an opportunity to tell their story and fully express themselves through a cohesive body of work. This collection by @the.allisonjames tells her ever-evolving story of motherhood, confidence and transformation. The paintings are a kind of self-portrait, inviting viewers to find something of themselves within the work.

Now live, @the.allisonjames solo show at the gallery, Origin Story! Created between November 2025 and June 2026, this body of work traces a season of profound transformation. What began as an exploration of motherhood took on new meaning when Allison discovered she was expecting her second child midway through the series. Through luminous, unruly florals and an evolving visual language, these paintings capture the uncertainty, wonder and quiet joy of becoming. Deeply personal yet universally resonant, the work invites viewers to reflect on change, growth and the many ways we are continually reshaped.

It was fun to share the very first piece ever sold at the gallery in yesterday’s post by @angelachrusciakiblehm! So I’m rolling with it—want to know the second piece after opening our doors? It was a @kevin.brent.morris beetle! Based in Kansas City, Kevin’s work has evolved and become even more refined over the years, and we’re grateful to still represent him. We love the combination of patterned backgrounds and meticulously detailed subjects. There’s still a handful of crawly friends at the gallery, each one paired with a uniquely vintage, sourced frame. Titled On Pink, swipe to the end to see the exact piece that became the second work we ever sold at the gallery in 2019. 🪲

Simply put, pop art is all about bold color, big humor and no pretense—often transforming everyday objects into art. And I love @angelachrusciakiblehm’s take on it. She’s turned the familiar into an iconic collection that everyone recognizes as uniquely hers: lips, legs, shoes, ribbons and more. She’s inspired by fashion, the routines of everyday life and the comic side of sensuality. We’re thrilled to carry her work and support a longtime friend. Angela was the very first artist we ever paid—the first piece the gallery ever sold was one of hers in May 2019, just after we opened our doors! Swipe to the end to see which piece it was. 👠

It’s less glamorous back there, but I’m telling you—that’s where the magic happens. Amid packaging supplies, cardboard, and bubble wrap are 300+ pieces of art, all deserving their moment in the limelight. Here’s today’s roundup of beauties from the back that you need to see. These and (always) so much more!

Okay, where are my readers at? 📚 This Collected series by @elsielarson is so special because it brings together her signature folk art painting style with another one of her greatest loves: books. Elsie is a big reader, and as a creative through and through, it feels so fitting that she combines both passions into one. Three pieces are still available with titles you might recognize like One Hundred Years of Solitude, State of Wonder, The Picture of Dorian Gray, The Most Fun We Ever Had and more. Do you spot one of your favorite reads? And the best little surprise—a peekaboo painted striped edge.

I’ll stand by it: art is always the answer. Today’s install was full of BIG pieces by Allison James, all set to debut next Friday, July 24. We don’t often dedicate our walls to solo shows, so we’re especially excited to share one cohesive collection. The installation features perfectly paired paintings that trace @the.allisonjames’ journey through the emotional transformation of motherhood, using evolving floral forms as self-portraits. It’s beautiful, and I can’t wait to share more. Sign up for her presale email next week or see the entire collection live next Friday!

It’s always fun to share a peek at what’s happening behind the scenes in the design world. ✨ Our Director of Design, Hannah, has been especially busy with construction site visits as projects continue to take shape—which also happens to be one of her favorite parts. Here are a few highlights from the month’s recap! Checking in on tile installation progress for a bathroom renovation and loving this pattern from @thetileshop. Meeting with a client to refine the home’s overall scheme and color story, with material pulls from @schumacher1889, @theloomandco and @cowtanandtout. A stunning blue paint color (Hannah’s current favorite!) from @benjaminmoore beautifully paired with neutral, textural grasscloth for this cabinetry installation. Reviewing painted millwork alongside a @schumacher1889 wallpaper sample to ensure every detail works together. Visiting @midwesttiledesmoines to select the perfect stone slab for custom countertops. Pairing a @phillipjeffriesltd grasscloth sample with painted trim for a timeless, layered look. Envisioning and planning custom cabinetry and millwork for a client. This future view will feature a beautifully detailed traditional staircase, a custom runner and artwork throughout—and we can’t wait to see it come to life.

Kristen keeps telling us that she said goodbye to her favorite painting when she shipped it off to the gallery. And @kristen.abbott.art, we’re lucky to have it! Shared more in today’s stories, this piece is full of incredible color and texture—and it has the most perfect title: The Scent of the Sun at the Lake. Lake season is upon us. ☀️🌊 We’re so excited to see where she finds a home. After living with it for just a few days here, the team keeps coming back to how special it is.
