As an artist, AK Hardeman is deeply interested in the interaction of color—how the arrangement of colors alone can create a work of art. She works with acrylic and oil paints, oil pastels, colored pencil, and paper to produce pieces on both canvas and paper. To her, color influences appetite, vision, sexuality, design, art, emotions, and countless other aspects of life that shape human psychology. It is present in all surroundings, especially within nature and science.
Hardeman explores the ways in which colors can be complementary, harmonizing, adjacent, or, at times, clashing. Color is the central theme of her work. She focuses on hues that express her own emotions and feelings, forming images that leave space for viewer interpretation.
Artist Statement:
"There is rarely a point I try to get across, a statement I try to make, or a system of signs I wish to give message or meaning. I am simply interested in the use of color and aesthetic freedom. I try to create the semblance of an object that gives rise to the viewer’s own emotions and feelings. My goal is for viewers to invent and unravel their own meaning.” - AK Hardeman
