Art Meets Design: A Peek Into My Home Makeover
As I prepared my home for a few fun PR moments, I finally tackled the projects that had been lingering on my to-do list. With the help of Hannah, our Director of Interior Design, my living room now feels fully complete.
I like to think of myself as a design expert, but in truth, I am a design lover and even I need to turn to the experts from time to time. I am getting my home ready for the book and some fun PR opportunities where I will be inviting a videographer into my home. This means I am working on just about everything I have ever had on my list. Now is the time to get it done and show off my best ideas.
My living room has a large ceiling whose dullness (just plain white) has irked me forever. I knew a few weeks ago that now was the perfect time to paint the ceiling. I called my friend Dustin, who also happens to be my go-to painter, and sent him a blue color. Well, here’s the problem with making quick decisions and not swatching the paint – paint has a funny way of turning colors you don’t expect on ceilings. The light is different and it’s a large un-interrupted space. So my beautiful blue I had chosen turned… purple.
I am not against the color purple–as an art lover I am an equal opportunity color lover too. But this purple was not right, suddenly my carefully curated home was clashing all over the place.
I knew it was time to call in the big guns– and by that I mean our interior designer Hannah Jacobus, an actual design expert. Hannah knows my home well and pulled a large collection of colors. I did swatch this time and colors I thought I would love then turned GREEN. Ultimately, she knows color and found the perfect blue.
SW Resolute Blue that helped bring the design all together.
I’d be remiss if I didn’t remind you all that Hannah does these awesome
color study packages where she works with clients virtually on the perfect color palette for their home. Think of it as a room-by-room roadmap for color: Hannah develops a custom palette and pairs it with inspiration imagery and a practical implementation guide. You’ll walk away with the tools to apply your primary palette and seamlessly blend in coordinating supporting colors and finishes throughout your home.
I have learned my lesson and I will be turning to Hannah each time I need to make a big color decision. There are times you just need to turn to the experts.
