Art Meets Design: Woven Garden Dining Room

Hannah Jacobus • November 25, 2025

Step into a dining room that makes every meal feel both cozy and elegant. With natural textures and warm wood tones, it’s the kind of space that makes you want to linger, breathe, and savor every moment.

Hannah’s interior design scheme of a dining room

The Mood: Serene, Tailored, Natural

This design radiates bright optimism with a touch of nostalgia. The fresh green mural wallpaper sets a joyful tone, like stepping into a painted garden alive with birds and blossoms. Cheerful and transportive, it remains calm enough for everyday living. A palette of creamy white, sandy neutrals, sunny yellow, soft blue, and leafy green creates a welcoming and uplifting atmosphere... perfect for a space where every element encourages conversation. Stepping into the dining room, you feel an immediate exhale from the day, as if the outside world has been gently set aside. The round table and tailored chairs turns quick catch-ups into meaningful chats. Comfort, style, and effortless elegance are at the heart of the room, making even simple meals feel thoughtful and homey. Natural textures and warm wood tones keep the space grounded, while blue and brass lighting adds a soft sheen that elevates without overwhelming. The overall effect is serene yet spirited: layered patterns, gentle coloring, and a sense of rhythm make the room feel quietly special and inviting.

Color palette: white, tan, light yellow, dusty blue, green

A Conversation Between Pattern and Art:

Anna Beurskens’ Wrapped Panel #149 anchors the room, introducing a calm grid and subtle pastel layering that gently organizes the space. Its quiet geometry is set against the airy floral mural wallcovering, creating a beautiful push-and-pull between crisp and organic. The shell-toned palette remains light and restorative, while touches of green, cornflower blue, and soft butter yellow add a subtle lift. Colors that echo throughout the room in a collected, effortless way, from the gingham skirted chairs to ceramics and accent pieces.

On the walls, pattern and art are in constant dialogue. The floral backdrop provides an organic, storybook setting, while the large plaid artwork layered ontop introduces structure and a modern twist. The wallpaper’s vines and birds meander freely, while the plaid’s grid is tailored and orderly. Neither element overpowers the other; instead, they trade the spotlight, allowing color to flow seamlessly between them. The blue lamps, green jars, and pink accessories on the white console echo these hues, acting almost like visual subtitles that help the eye “read” the patterns together. Meanwhile, the blue gingham chairs add a third layer of pattern... sweet, approachable, and slightly nostalgic bridging the softness of the florals with the clarity of the plaid. The overall effect is a harmonious, layered conversation between color, pattern, and form.

Bringing It All Together:

What unifies this scheme is the thoughtful layering of color, texture, and shape. The warm wood pedestal table grounds the room, giving all that pattern a solid, traditional anchor. The natural woven rug softens everything, adding an earthy layer that keeps the space relaxed and livable. Overhead, the globe pendant is like jewelry for the room, echoing the round table and adding a touch of sparkle. Together, these elements show how art can lead a design: the wall piece and wallpaper set the palette and personality, and the furnishings follow their cue. For an art gallery, this vignette becomes a visual lesson—proof that when you let artwork and pattern talk to each other, you can create a space that feels curated, cohesive, and full of life.

Designer Tips:

Pro Tip #1: Let One Piece Lead the Palette - Pull 3–5 tones from your anchor artwork and repeat each one in small, varied ways (upholstery, ceramics, flowers, even a subtle stripe). The repetition creates cohesion without feeling theme-y.

Pro Tip #2: Pair Geometry with Botanicals - When combining a structured art moment with a floral or organic wallcovering, keep the rest of the room simple in form and add pattern through controlled hits, varying scale (small gingham + larger floral) is what makes it feel intentional and balanced.
