Hunt Slonem is an American artist known for his neo-expressionist paintings of butterflies, rabbits, and tropical birds. Anna Flickinger is a local Iowan, who at a young age was fascinated with the quirks and beauty of nature. This influenced her current subject matter depicting vegetation and wildlife. She uses a technique called stippling, allowing her to explore hyperrealism through small dots simulating varying degrees of solidity or shading. Kevin Brent Morris is an emerging representational artist based out of Kansas City and drastically gaining popularity. Working primarily in acrylics, he is a colorist with a strong commitment to form and light, Morris combines direct observation and expressive color to create representations that juxtapose planes of flattened space with domestic and natural objects, conveying depth and plays of light. Inspired by the nabis, fauvist, and pop art movements, Morris gives presence to small, fleeting moments—flowers, bugs, or intimate domestic scenes.
