Commission process: Angela Chrusciaki Blehm

We often work with our clients to commission a specific piece for their home. Whether it’s a certain artist they like but they’re looking for specific colors, or they want a painting of their house and we pair an artist based on their style—we work hard to make sure our clients absolutely love the piece. We recently partnered with a client based in Colorado, Julie, on a commissioned piece by Angela Chrusciaki Blehm and we thought we’d share the process with you—it’s enlightening. And, it’s fun to see how the client sparked the start to then see the final piece hung in her home!

First, Julie knew exactly where she wanted the piece—she sent us a picture of her empty wall to share with the artist. This allows us and the artist to get a feel for the style and color of the space.

Next, Julie had seen two pieces created by the artist she was already drawn to—see the two images below. She liked a combination of the colors and compositions used. The first piece she saw during our Pop Wow show featuring Angela's work.

Using these two images, and Julie's ask for the main colors to be blue, red and green, we connected with the artist, Angela, on Julie's empty wall. Taking all these factors into consideration, Angela then created a few digital drafts for Julie to approve before moving forward on the actual piece.

After seeing the digital drafts, Julie picked her favorite—and Angela got right to work! About 6 weeks passed for Angela to create the piece and then she sent over a final picture for Julie to approve. Julie loved it! So, Angela packed it up and sent it Julie's way to Colorado (from Georgia!).

And now the piece hangs in Julie's home—right on the wall she had in mind. The piece's retro, muted colors perfectly complement the furnishings. And, with the vaulted ceiling, the vertical composition of the piece fills the space beautifully!

It's a special thing to go through the commission process—you pick your favorite colors and textures to create a truly unique, one-of-a-kind piece to have in your home. Almost all our artists create commission pieces and we love working with them all. They each have their own process and it's so interesting to see how they create.
