How we "social distance"

Liz Lidgett • March 17, 2020

I’ve always loved this quote but it feels like more than creating the future right now, we need to protect it. These are strange (and scary) times for us small business owners—and, really, everyone. We both need to operate as usual to continue to bring in an income and distance ourselves to protect our community. So how can we do both? For now, we have closed the gallery to be by appointment only and are only taking on jobs where we can continue to distance ourselves from others. We are taking it week by week and will let you know as things change. And, as always, you can still see all available artwork on our website! We will continue to ship artwork as long as shipping agencies are up and running.

Yesterday, we practiced “social distancing” by painting an interior mural for a client in an empty building as they still finish up construction.

Tracing the mural design using a projector

As many of our murals do, this one started with an original design we created and a projector to trace the design onto the wall. And, after about seven hours of our own quarantine together, Tina and I finished the mural and are thrilled with how it turned out. We also really loved the chance to take a moment of quiet, step away from our phones and just paint—no pandemic updates and no news headlines. If you're looking for a zen way to spend your time at home, we highly recommend picking up a paintbrush.

As you can imagine, this is an incredibly challenging time for artists. As advocates for our gallery artists, we're going to work even harder to continue to support their work in the coming weeks which allows them to provide for their families.

Finished mural for the new Lincoln Saving Bank on Ingersoll Ave.

During this strange time, we’ll also be using our social and digital channels in a more creative way to share more about the artwork and gallery artists. We’d love to interrupt your daily COVID-19 news updates with beautiful art—doing my best to spread a little more beauty around the world in these uncertain times. If you’re not already, follow us on Instagramand look for new twists on our social updates in the coming weeks.

For all small businesses, this is a difficult and uncertain time. Thank you so much for your continued support. And, please— send us a message if you’d like to still come in this week to see a piece of art by appointment, or have us deliver a piece you’ve had your eye on.
