Met Gala 2023

Angie Barker + Suki Waterhouse

The red carpet of the Met Gala is always fun to watch and it's been a tradition for me the past few years to pair my favorite dresses with some of my favorite pieces in the gallery. Art and fashion partner so well together and I love finding the overlapping themes. Here's some from last week's gala. Just click on the photo if you want to know more about the pieces selected! -LL

Suki Waterhouse's stylist, Candice Birns, told InStyle that they were channeling an "effortlessly romantic Bridgette Bardot." I thought her Burberry gown paired perfectly with this Angie Barker as she had those colorful flowers and greenery throughout the dress. Angie's piece also has some beautiful cutout moments so that the wall color peaks through -- just as her dress has the translucency throughout.

Shannon Coppage + Serena Williams

I was especially proud of this pairing as Serena announced her pregnancy as she walked the red carpet. Her outfit pairs so wonderfully with the black and white of Shannon's modern piece. That little gray square represents that sweet baby she's carrying!

Raasheda Burnett + Pedro Pascal

The internet's favorite actor and meme star was wearing a bold red outfit for the red carpet. This is all about color matching for the reds and blacks in Pascal's outfit with the vibrant colors in Raasheda Burnett's piece.

Kristi Kohut + Grace Elizabeth

Of course these pink stripes were an amazing pair with Grace Elizabeth's Christoper John Rogers look. CJR is a favorite designer of mine lately because he clearly has so much fun with color and texture just as Kristi Kohut does with her pieces. Gotta love anyone who embraces color!

Ron Giusri + Duo Lipa

The Met Gala honored Karl Lagerfeld who was a designer for Chanel for years. Because of this there was a lot of black and white on the carpet and Dua Lipa's look was my favorite. Minimalist with big style which also makes me think of Ron Giusti's black and white abstract mini. Just a subtle texture and beautiful contrast of neutrals both in the dress and the art.

Hunt Slonem + Penelope Cruz

For Penelope Cruz's look has the most subtle blue and silver throughout. Hunt Slonem is known for his beautifully adorned frames for his bunnies and butterflies. These two looks look like a match made in silver heaven.

Fares Micue + Chloe Fineman

Fares Micue's photography always includes the most beautiful fashion in bright colors. Of course, the black background and florals obscuring her face in this photo made it the right choice to pair with Chloe Fineman's gorgeous dress by Stella McCartney.
