About this collection/recent work in general:
My embroidered paintings are always about balancing the tension of opposites in some way and often also reflect my internal battle with perfectionism. The free spirit in me creates loose organic brushstrokes and rejoices in bold colors, while the perfectionist endlessly seeks the satisfaction of precise geometric lines.

As an exercise in loosening my grip and letting the chips fall where they may, a sort of exposure therapy, I’ve started intentionally making “mistakes” in some pieces. The Box paintings in this series have that tension between getting things just right and allowing a bit of whimsy. I paint clean, crisp edges between the two colors, take in the near-perfection and then summon the courage to pick up the brush again and let the paint flow across the edges.
