KAREN STROHBEEN
Macksburg, Iowa
Karen Strohbeen is one of the Midwest’s most successful fine artists, celebrated for her innovative contributions to digital printmaking and contemporary art. Since creating her first prints in 1970, Strohbeen has been among the originators of the digital printmaking art form and continues to push the boundaries of the medium.
Drawing inspiration from her lifelong love of gardening, Strohbeen integrates photography, computer processes, and natural forms to create sculptures, photographs, and prints on paper, canvas, and ceramic tile. Her work is featured in residential and corporate collections around the world.
Strohbeen also hosts and produces the PBS program The Perennial Gardener with Karen Strohbeen, which showcases the beautiful gardens of the 80-acre farm she shares with her husband and collaborator, artist Bill Luchsinger. The gardens often serve as the inspiration for much of her artwork.
A graduate of Drake University, Strohbeen was jointly awarded the Garden Club of America’s Eloise Payne Luquer Medal in 1996 for special achievement in the field of botany. In addition to her collaborative projects, she continues to create artwork individually in various mediums.
