Liz’s Lens: Tips and Tricks for the Perfect Hang

Liz Lidgett • February 4, 2025

Take the guesswork out of hanging art—all the knowledge you need in one place!

Which motto fits you the best: measure once, hang twice, or measure twice, hang once? What if you could measure once and hang perfectly every time? With a formula, one golden measurement is all it takes!

Three Practical Tips:

Furniture placement matters, height matters and visual space matters.

1. hang art 12-14" above furniture

2. middle of the piece at 60" (average eye line)

3. generally at least 12" between two works (unless there's creative intention)

Installing two stacked pieces?

See the easy math breakdown of how to hang your art in one swing below–our version of the Krabby Patty Formula!

Here’s the math—stick with me. Measure the height of both pieces (24” here) and the distance you want between them (3”) Add that all together to get 51”. Divide it by 2 and add that number to 60” (average eye height) which is 84”. I theh take the distance between the top of the first piece and the wire on the back. Here that’s 6”. So 84”-6” is 78” and that’s where you’ll put your first nail. For the second piece, measure the distance again from the top of the piece and the wire. Here again 6” and then I add that distance in so from the bottom of the first piece we measure 9” down. That’s where you put your 2nd nail. Point being you want 60” to be in the center of the overall visual weight like you would just a single piece.

And if you're a visual learner

Follow these steps for installing one piece of art at standard eye line level.

Thanks for following along! I’ll be back soon to share more tips, insights, and wisdom in the next Liz’s Lens blog!
