Des Moines, Iowa
Sarah Grant grew up in central Iowa amidst the cultures of art, academia, science and agriculture. She studied at Colorado State and holds numerous degrees from the University of Iowa: a BFA and MA in Drawing & Intaglio Printmaking, as well as an MFA in Painting. She taught at Iowa State University for a decade. In 1992, Grant founded Sticks Object Art & Furniture, running the business, leading the design team, and managing hundreds of artists. In 2018, when she stepped away from those roles to become a consultant for Sticks, she used her newfound time and energy to engage more fully with painting. Grant began making larger-scale acrylic works on paper and canvas, accepting commissions, and entering a realm of experimentation that was overdue. She remains connected to her painting and art history roots, but the freedom to push and expand her understanding of abstraction and its relation to narrative has become paramount.
Grant has had gallery representation since the 1980s and is currently represented by Liz Lidgett Gallery + Design in Des Moines, Iowa. She has studios in Des Moines and Northwest Iowa and is grateful to experience these different surroundings while creating art. Sticks custom pieces and Grant’s individual fine artworks can be found in museums and corporate, private, and public collections worldwide.
