The Mood: Energetic, Confident, Lively

This living room radiates a lively, confident energy, where classic patterns meet bold, modern colors in perfect stride. Traditional gingham adds charms paired with reimagined blooming florals through a vibrant color palette, creating a space that feels both playful and self-assured. Every detail works in rhythm with one another, giving the space an up-lifting movement and a personality that’s impossible to ignore. This room comes with a presence, you step into it as a guest, while it takes the lead with its bold personality, rich character, and unmistakable confidence.

A Conversation Between Pattern and Art:

In this living room, the artwork becomes the bold connector between two strong personalities,  the light blue gingham couch and the deep coral floral motif wallpaper. The painting’s confident stripes in coral, deep navy, and soft periwinkle play with the couch’s crisp gingham while harmonizing the warmth coming from the wallpaper. Pops of blush and plum add in a layer of unexpected depth, softening the conversation between the loud patterns throughout the space - creating the feeling of both intentional and liveliness. The result is a visual dialogue, structured yet spontaneous, where every glance reveals a new intersection of form and color.

Bringing It All Together:

This living room strikes a delicate balance between traditional charm and eclectic energy by weaving a consistent color story throughout every detail. The bold red side table acts as a confident accent, pulling the warm tones from the floral wallpaper and reflecting the vibrancy found in the art. Shades of blue flow throughout the room, from the classic gingham sofa to the structured accent chairs, creating a sense of harmony amongst the mix of patterns. To ground the design, a subtly patterned tan rug adds texture without competing with the wallpaper or artwork, allowing the eye to rest on the central pairing of the couch and wall. Crisp white side tables and a gilded shaped lantern offer a playful solid block of color that anchor the room, while a light wooden coffee table brings in a natural, timeless warmth. The result is a space that feels layered yet cohesive, a little playful yet unmistakably refined.

Designer Tips for a Cohesive Dining Room:

Pro Tip 1: Layer in Energetic Modern Art

Don’t be afraid to shake up a more traditional space, with bold, modern art. Abstract pieces full of movement and color can instantly energize the room, adding a contemporary twist keeps things feeling current. Choose art that subtly echoes your color palette - it’s a simple way to create cohesion while still making a strong visual impact.

Pro Tip 2: Mixed Materials Are More Than Welcome

Mixing your finishes is one of the easiest ways to create depth and interest in a room. Combine painted furniture with warm woods and a variety of metal accents across lighting, furniture, and décor. No need to worry about becoming too polished in a space, this intentional mix-and-match approach keeps a space thoughtfully collected, not like it came straight out of a showroom. Bonus points for including pieces that are antiques or vintage objects that leave the space feeling lived-in.

Last week, I gave our Gallery Insiders an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at what my walls have been up to. Since releasing my book Art For Everyone, I’ve been prioritizing projects in my own home—using it as both a canvas and a testing ground for ideas I share in the book. One of my favorite recent projects has been completely transforming my kids’ playroom. With the help of an exciting new collaboration with a wallpaper company (stay tuned for the name reveal), the space came to life in a whole new way. As part of the Gallery Insiders exclusive, I hosted a photoshoot right in my home to showcase the new wallpaper designs. While the photographer captured the bigger picture, I couldn’t resist snapping a few photos myself—little glimpses into the DIY projects I’ve been pouring into every corner, tweaking and perfecting until they felt just right. From the dining room to the living room, the kids’ spaces, and even the mudroom, I realized how much inspiration hides in everyday details. And yes, I’ll admit— Pinterest and Facebook Marketplace have been my secret weapons! Today, I’m excited to share a closer look at my home and the inspiration behind it all. In Art For Everyone , you’ll find more photos of my spaces styled with artwork from our gallery, showing how art can live side by side with family life. What started as saved pins and mood boards has turned into real, lived-in rooms—proof that inspiration doesn’t have to stay digital. With a little creativity (and some persistence), those “someday ideas” can become the backdrop of everyday life.
