Gallery Wall of the Month: September

Liz Lidgett • September 27, 2021

In September, I often think of the Oscar Wilde quote, “And all at once, summer collapsed into fall.”

Rebecca Stern, Leigh Suggs, Kate Blomquist and Fares Micue

I love the sunny but chilly mornings that September and the fall brings. It’s also this wonderfully strange time where you could spend your weekends at the pool or a chilly football game.

I was thinking about all of this as I was putting together the September Gallery Wall of the Month. There’s some beautiful, bright colors along with some deeper moodier colors.

Rebecca Stern, Once Over, Mixed media on stretched canvas, 30 x 22 in, $1150 ($115/mo)

The Rebecca Stern painting plays with great color with lovely blues and pops of pink. The raw canvas that she paints on also has great texture plus she often layers bits of canvas and fabric to add more dimension. This plays so well with the light pink acrylic, hand cut piece by Leigh Suggs. The back of the piece is also painted and the acrylic is floated inside of the frame so there’s a really nice pink glow created from the reflection of the stark white mat.

Leigh Suggs, On Our Way (Pink), Cut acrylic, 11 x 11 in, $1500 ($150/mo)

Then we come down to the stunning Fares Micueself-portrait. The pink blossoms obscuring her face and contrasted against the black background is just visually perfect. It evokes that moodiness of fall that I mentioned.

Fares Micue, The Venus Touch, Photograph, 19.7 x 15.7 in, $640

Then finally, we have the prettiest little Kate Blomquist. Kate paints on top of pieces of aluminum so that there’s a metallic shine that peeks out from below the paint. I love when the light hits it just right and it seems to change before your eyes.

Kate Blomquist, Snakebite, Oil on aluminum, 9 x 8 in, $250

When putting together a gallery wall, I like to put together pieces that play well together but then also give a little something unexpected whether that’s in the materials or concept. This gallery wall offers all of that and more.
